Czech Republic Embassy Attestation: Apostille Rules and the Nostrification Step That Really Matters
Czech Republic embassy attestation stopped being the correct route on 16 March 1999, when the Hague Apostille Convention came into force for the country now also called Czechia. An Indian document for Prague, Brno or Ostrava carries one MEA apostille. The stage that actually decides Czech files is nostrifikace — the Czech recognition of a foreign qualification — and it is nothing to do with stamps.
Czechia is one of the larger European destinations for Indian students and IT professionals, and the commonest reason a Czech file fails is not a missing apostille but an unprepared nostrification pack. INFINITYGRO handles the Notary, SDM and MEA stages from our Delhi office and tells you what the Czech side will ask for next.
- ✓Czechia has accepted apostilles since 16 March 1999
- ✓No Czech embassy or consular stamp is needed on Indian documents
- ✓We prepare the apostilled set that nostrification and Employee Card files need
- ✓Written quote first, work second — always in that order
In one paragraph: what Czech Republic requires from India
Quick answer Last updated 8 October 2026
Czech Republic accepts the Hague apostille, so Czech Republic embassy attestation is not a separate stage. An Indian public document for Czech Republic is notarised, attested by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Delhi and then given a numbered apostille by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. Nothing afterwards goes to a Czech Republic embassy or consulate.

Apostille or Czech Republic embassy attestation? What Czech Republic expects
The Czech Republic does not legalise Indian documents at a consular counter. The Apostille Convention entered into force for the country on 16 March 1999, so a numbered MEA apostille from New Delhi is the complete and final legalisation of an Indian public document for Czech use.
Czech administrative vocabulary is the source of a lot of confusion here, so it is worth separating three words that get used interchangeably and mean entirely different things. Superlegalizace is the old consular legalisation route, which still applies to documents from countries outside the Convention and no longer applies to India. Apostila is what your Indian document needs. Nostrifikace is not a legalisation step at all — it is the Czech recognition of a foreign qualification, decided by a regional authority for secondary education or by a Czech university for higher education, and it is the stage that takes the time.
One more naming point, since it affects what you search for: the country adopted Czechia as its official short name in 2016, so Czech Republic embassy attestation and Czechia apostille describe the same thing. Both forms are correct and the paperwork is identical.
The 1999 entry-into-force date is published in the HCCH status table for Convention No. 12. Nostrification requirements are set by the Czech regional authority or university deciding your case, so get the list from them directly.
The route an Indian document takes for Czechia
Three stages in India, ending in New Delhi, after which the Czech side adds a sworn translation and, for qualifications, the nostrification assessment. Knowing which of those is ours and which is yours saves a great deal of money. That is Czech Republic embassy attestation in full, with nothing left out.
Notary and SDM in Delhi, then the MEA apostille
The chain ends at the Ministry. Nothing travels to the Czech Embassy.
- Arranged by you
Obtain the transcript or course-content record your nostrification will need
Czech nostrification is assessed on subjects, credit hours and course content, not on the certificate alone. Request a detailed transcript or syllabus statement from your university at the start, because this is the item people discover they are missing after everything else is apostilled.

Notary Public and Sub-Divisional Magistrate attestation in Delhi
A Notary Public in Delhi enters and seals the document and a Sub-Divisional Magistrate attests the notary's signature. This is the clearance the Ministry's apostille counter requires on a fast-track file and it is handled end to end by us.

MEA apostille
The Ministry of External Affairs affixes a numbered apostille sticker with a QR code to the reverse of the document. For Czechia that completes the legalisation. The sworn Czech translation is then commissioned over the apostilled document, never before it.
Typically needed for: Nostrification of Indian secondary and higher qualifications, university admission, Employee Card and Blue Card applications, long-term residence and family reunification, company registration and powers of attorney.
Check the Czech Republic embassy attestation requirement before you pay anyone
Czech offices are precise and they publish their requirements, which makes this manageable if you ask in the right order. Before you spend anything, get the regional authority or university to confirm which documents they need nostrified, whether a transcript or syllabus is required, and whether the translation must be by a soudní překladatel, a court-appointed translator in Czechia. None of those three answers comes from a consulate, which is exactly why Czech Republic embassy attestation is the wrong thing to shop for.
The three document categories and what each one goes through
Sort the paperwork before you spend anything. Personal records, academic records and company documents are handled by different authorities in India and reach Czech Republic by different paths. Below, each family is set out with its contents and its route, stage by stage.
Personal and non-educational records
These are civil-status and administrative records, and they are the quickest part of Czech Republic embassy attestation because there is no university or board verification step lurking behind them.

The route
- First stop: a Delhi Notary. The original is produced, entered in the notarial register and sealed. It is a short step but an unskippable one.Handled by INFINITYGRO
- The magistrate's stage. A Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Delhi attests the notary's signature, which is what the Ministry's counter checks against its specimen records.Handled by INFINITYGRO
- The long option: Home Department of the issuing State. Some authorities will only accept the State's own GAD or Regional Attestation Centre stamp. It adds weeks and it is organised by you directly, not by us.Arranged by you
- MEA, New Delhi — the last Indian counter on a Czech Republic file. The Ministry checks the stamp below against its specimen records and applies its sticker. Walk-in submission by individuals ended in 2012.Handled by INFINITYGRO
- For Czech Republic the apostille is the end of the road. The Ministry's numbered sticker with a QR code is applied and the document is complete. No Czech Republic mission stamp exists or is needed, which is what Czech Republic embassy attestation really amounts to.Final stage
Degrees, diplomas, marksheets and transcripts
Educational records are the slowest category in Czech Republic embassy attestation, and the reason is always the same: the State or university stage, where it is demanded, runs on somebody else's timetable rather than ours.

The route
- Sealed by a Notary Public. Done in Delhi, with a register entry against your document. Without it the magistrate has nothing to attest and the file cannot proceed.Handled by INFINITYGRO
- Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The SDM attests the Notary's signature. This is the fast-track State-level stage and the Ministry accepts it in place of a Home Department or HRD stamp.Handled by INFINITYGRO
- Or: State HRD / Higher Education Department. Where the receiving institution demands it, the education department of the issuing State authenticates the certificate, usually after the university has verified it. This runs in that State, takes considerably longer, and is arranged and paid for by you.Arranged by you
- Ministry of External Affairs, the final Indian stage. The preceding signature is checked against MEA's specimen records and the Ministry's sticker applied. A registered agency submits, because the public counter closed in 2012.Handled by INFINITYGRO
- For Czech Republic the apostille is the end of the road. The Ministry's numbered sticker with a QR code is applied and the document is complete. No Czech Republic mission stamp exists or is needed, which is what Czech Republic embassy attestation really amounts to.Final stage
Company, trade and export paperwork
Trade and corporate documents skip the civil administration entirely and go through the Chamber of Commerce instead. Mixing the two chains is the single most common error in commercial Czech Republic embassy attestation files.

Classification is free to check and expensive to get wrong. Send a photograph of the document and you will be told which of the three chains it belongs in, what each stage costs, and which stages are yours rather than ours.
Czech Republic embassy attestation for each document type
Czech requirements are driven by the application route, and for anything involving a qualification the nostrification pack is larger than the apostille pack. Czech Republic embassy attestation is the phrase in the search box; an apostille is what each document below needs. They all travel the same Czech Republic embassy attestation stages, but the reason they are wanted differs sharply.
Degree certificate apostille for Czech Republic
A degree certificate apostille for Czechia is the highest-volume document on this route, needed for university admission, for nostrification of a higher qualification, and for Employee Card and Blue Card applications where the job is tied to a degree. The apostille goes on the original and the detailed transcript is effectively compulsory alongside it.
Nostrification and Blue CardDiploma, ITI and trade certificates
Polytechnic diplomas, ITI trade certificates and vocational qualifications take the same apostille route, and secondary-level nostrification is decided by the regional authority rather than a university. Course-content documentation matters even more here, because trade syllabuses vary widely between Indian boards.
Technical qualificationsBirth certificate apostille for Czech Republic
A birth certificate apostille for Czechia appears in family reunification, dependant residence and school admission for children. Use the municipal registrar's certificate rather than a hospital record, and expect a sworn Czech translation to be required with it.
Family reunificationMarriage certificate apostille for Czech Republic
A marriage certificate apostille for Czechia is needed for spouse-based residence, for registering a foreign marriage with the Czech registry and for property and name-change matters. The registrar's certificate is the document that counts, not a religious ceremony record.
Spouse residencePolice Clearance Certificate
An Indian Police Clearance Certificate is part of Employee Card, Blue Card and long-term residence files for Czechia. It is apostilled on the same chain, and because Czech offices treat it as recent-dated, obtain it towards the end of your preparation rather than at the beginning.
PCCCommercial and company documents
Invoices, certificates of origin, board resolutions, MOA and AOA and powers of attorney need a Chamber of Commerce stage before the Ministry. Czech company registration through the commercial register and EU-facing trade documentation are the usual destinations.
Chamber of Commerce firstWhat actually moves the cost of Czech Republic embassy attestation
Czech Republic embassy attestation fees are not a real category, because no Czech mission charge arises on an Indian document. What a Czech file genuinely costs is shaped by this.
1No consular stage
A Czech file ends at the Ministry in New Delhi, so no foreign mission fee enters the quote. This is the main reason Czech files cost considerably less than Gulf ones.
2Sworn Czech translation
Often the largest single line in a Czech file and entirely outside our quote. A soudní překladatel is appointed under Czech law, charges Czech rates and usually prices per page, and nostrification packs run to many pages.
3The nostrification application itself
Decided by a Czech regional authority or university, with its own fee and its own timetable. Arranged by you. Where an authority asks for additional course documentation, that comes from your university.
4Whether a State authentication is demanded
If a Czech university insists on State HRD authentication before the Ministry, that is a separate process you arrange and pay for directly, and it adds weeks to the file.
5Documents per file, courier and urgency
A nostrification set with a degree, transcripts and marksheets is more documents than a single certificate, tracked courier from outside Delhi adds to the total, and a genuine deadline is priced differently from a routine file.
Both the degree certificate fees page and the diploma certificate fees page set the charges out stage by stage. For your particular set, a photograph on WhatsApp brings a written quote back.
Czech Republic embassy attestation: what nostrification really asks for
If you take one thing from this page, take this: on a Czech file the apostille is the easy half-day, and nostrification is the part that decides whether you study or work in Czechia this year or next. Prepare for the second one.
Nostrification is recognition, not legalisation. It is a decision by a Czech authority that your Indian qualification is comparable to a Czech one. Secondary-level qualifications are decided by the regional authority for the region where you will live or study; higher qualifications are decided by a Czech public university with a comparable programme. No stamp from India substitutes for it.
It is assessed on content, so bring content. Czech authorities compare subjects, credit hours, contact hours and sometimes examination methods. A degree certificate alone tells them almost nothing. You will be asked for a detailed transcript or a syllabus statement from your university, and if your institution is slow to issue one, that is your real bottleneck. Request it first, before any apostille work starts.
The translation must usually be Czech and sworn. Czech offices generally require a translation by a court-appointed translator registered in Czechia, who seals the translation and attaches it to the source document. A translation produced by an agency in India is frequently refused, so apostille in India and translate in Czechia. On a nostrification pack running to dozens of pages this is a substantial cost, and doing it twice is painful.
Employee Card and Blue Card files are a different question. A work-permit application is about the job offer and the qualification required for it, and nostrification is sometimes needed and sometimes not depending on whether the role is regulated. Ask the Czech employer or the consulate handling the application which it is, because people pay for nostrification they did not need, and others skip one they did.
Reconcile your names and dates before the first stamp. Czech administration is unforgiving about a name spelled one way on a passport and another on a degree, or a date of birth that differs between documents. Fix discrepancies at the issuing authority first. An apostille on an inconsistent document simply certifies the inconsistency.
Send us the requirement list you were given and we will tell you which stages are ours, which are Czech, and in what order to do them.
Not part of Czech Republic embassy attestation: the honest limits
Every service has a boundary, and the boundary of Czech Republic embassy attestation is worth stating before you commit.
What we do not handle
- Institutional verification. We do not correspond with universities, boards or ITIs about your qualification.
- Authentication by the issuing State. Whether HRD or the home department, that stage is organised and paid for by you.
- Sworn Czech translation and nostrification applications. Court translators are appointed in Czechia and recognition is decided there.
- Application and visa fees. Whatever the receiving authority charges for its own process is paid directly to it.
- Obtaining a fresh copy of a certificate. The issuing registrar, board or university does this, not us.
INFINITYGRO is a private facilitation service, not a government authority, and no agency can skip a statutory stage or guarantee a decision that rests with the Ministry or a foreign mission.
Getting started: what to send

- ✓The detailed transcript or syllabus statement, which nostrification will require
- ✓The written requirement from the Czech authority, university or employer
- ✓A passport copy, photo page and address page, with names and dates reconciled against the certificates
- ✓The signed authorisation letter, from the template we email you
- ✓Return address and mobile number, unless you are collecting in person
Our note on common mistakes during certificate apostille is worth five minutes, and the HRD attestation guide explains the State stage where it applies.

This mission does not attest or legalise Indian documents. Because Czech Republic is an Apostille Convention country, the apostille is issued by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi and the chain ends there. We publish these details because people ask for them, and they are useful for visa and other consular enquiries — but do not take your documents here expecting a stamp.
Questions we are asked about Czech Republic embassy attestation
The recurring questions on Czech Republic embassy attestation, answered without hedging.
Do I need Czech embassy attestation in India?
No. The Apostille Convention has applied to the Czech Republic since 16 March 1999, so an MEA apostille from New Delhi is the complete legalisation of an Indian public document for Czechia. Nothing goes to the Czech Embassy. Superlegalizace, the old consular route, applies only to documents from countries outside the Convention.
What is nostrification and do I have to do it?
Nostrifikace is the Czech recognition of a foreign qualification, decided by a regional authority for secondary education or by a Czech public university for higher education. It is required for university admission and for regulated professions, and sometimes for work permits depending on the role. It is a recognition decision, not a stamp, and no Indian authority can provide it.
Can I get the Czech translation done in India?
Usually not acceptably. Czech authorities generally require a translation by a soudní překladatel, a court-appointed translator registered in Czechia, who seals the translation and binds it to the source document. Apostille the document in India first, then have the sworn translation done in Czechia over the apostilled version.
What does a nostrification pack from India contain?
Typically the apostilled degree or secondary certificate, an apostilled detailed transcript or marksheet set, and a syllabus or course-content statement from the issuing institution. The transcript and syllabus are the items most likely to delay you, because universities in India can be slow to issue them, so request them before any apostille work begins.
What do Czech Republic embassy attestation fees come to?
There is no Czech mission charge, so the Indian quote covers the Ministry's statutory charge per document, the Notary and SDM stages, our handling and the courier. The sworn Czech translation and the nostrification application fee are separate and, on a full pack, usually larger than the Indian side. Send a photograph of the set for a written quote.
Is Czechia the same as the Czech Republic for paperwork?
Yes. Czechia was adopted as the official short name in 2016 and both forms refer to the same country. Documents, apostilles and applications are unaffected by which name appears, and you may see either on Czech forms. Search results split between the two names, which is the only practical consequence.
