El Salvador Embassy Attestation Fees 2026: Apostille for Business, Marriage and Work
El Salvador has drawn fresh attention from founders, crypto businesses and investors since 2021. Whether you are registering a company in San Salvador or marrying a Salvadoran, the Indian paperwork follows one long-settled rule.
In one line: El Salvador has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since 31 May 1996, decades longer than most of Latin America. Indian documents are verified by the state or a Chamber of Commerce and receive an MEA apostille; the Salvadoran embassy in New Delhi does not legalise them. Expect to arrange a Spanish translation in El Salvador.

Thirty years of apostille: why there is no embassy stamp
El Salvador was among the earliest Latin American states to adopt the 1961 Convention, and India joined in 2005. Between two member states, the apostille issued by the country of origin is the complete authentication. For Indian papers that country is India and the issuing office is the Ministry of External Affairs.
The Embassy of El Salvador in New Delhi, resident since 2008, therefore has no counter for legalising Indian certificates. Its consular staff help Salvadoran nationals and handle visas. Your effort should go into the Indian side: getting the right department to verify the document so MEA will accept it.
Setting up a company in El Salvador from India
Interest in El Salvador as a business base grew after the 2021 Bitcoin Law, which made bitcoin legal tender; a 2025 amendment later made its acceptance voluntary. Whatever the sector, fintech, software outsourcing, trading or a subsidiary for Central American sales, incorporating a Salvadoran company or opening a branch means filing documents at the Centro Nacional de Registros (CNR) through a local notary.
- Power of attorney from the Indian shareholder or director to a Salvadoran lawyer, so you need not travel for every signature
- Board resolution approving the subsidiary, investment or appointment of a legal representative
- Certificate of incorporation, MOA and AOA of the Indian parent
- Good-standing or master data extract where the Salvadoran notary requests it
- Passport-based affidavits and address proof for bank KYC
- GST certificate and IEC for trading entities
Corporate papers pass through a Chamber of Commerce in India before the MEA apostille. Personal POAs are executed on stamp paper before a notary and verified by the state Home Department. Ask your Salvadoran lawyer for the exact wording first; an apostilled POA cannot be edited later.

Exporters: commercial document attestation for El Salvador
India's exports to El Salvador run to well over a hundred million US dollars a year, shipped mainly through Acajutla. Medicines, cotton yarn for the garment sector, chemicals, motorcycles, auto parts, steel and electrical machinery dominate. Buyers and the health regulator commonly ask for a Certificate of Origin, commercial invoice, packing list, COPP, GMP and free sale certificates, a letter of authorisation and the distribution agreement, all Chamber-certified and apostilled by MEA.
Marrying in El Salvador: single status and marriage certificate attestation
Indians marrying a Salvadoran partner must prove identity and freedom to marry. A Salvadoran notary or civil registry normally asks for:
- Birth certificate, verified by the Home Department or SDM and apostilled
- Single status or bachelorhood affidavit sworn before an Indian notary
- Divorce decree or spouse's death certificate if previously married
- Passport copy matching the names on all certificates
For couples already married in India, marriage certificate attestation for El Salvador is the key step when a husband or wife applies for residence as a family member. Children's birth certificates follow the same Home Department and MEA path.

Work, residence and degree certificate attestation for El Salvador
The Indian community in El Salvador is small, with people working in BPO operations, pharmaceutical marketing, hospitality and charitable missions. Foreign workers apply through the migration authority (DGME). The usual supporting set is an apostilled degree or diploma to prove qualification, experience certificates to show previous roles, and a police clearance confirming no criminal record in India.

Recognition of a foreign degree for regulated work or further study may involve the Ministry of Education or the Universidad de El Salvador; confirm their list first.

El Salvador apostille FAQ
Is El Salvador an apostille country?
Yes. The Hague Apostille Convention has been in force for El Salvador since 31 May 1996, so Indian public documents need an MEA apostille and no legalisation by the Salvadoran embassy.
What are El Salvador embassy attestation fees?
With no embassy fee involved, our all-inclusive prices are ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 for a PCC, from ₹1,500 for a birth certificate and ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 for a marriage certificate. Degrees and company papers are quoted individually.
Which documents do I need to register a company in El Salvador?
Usually a power of attorney for a local lawyer, a board resolution, the Indian company's incorporation certificate, MOA and AOA, plus KYC documents of directors. Each is apostilled by MEA after notary or Chamber certification.
Can I sign a power of attorney in India for use in San Salvador?
Yes. Sign it before an Indian notary on stamp paper using wording supplied by your Salvadoran lawyer, get it verified by the Home Department, then apostilled by MEA and translated into Spanish.
What documents does an Indian need to marry in El Salvador?
Typically an apostilled birth certificate, a single status affidavit, a passport copy and, if previously married, a divorce decree or death certificate. All are translated into Spanish after the apostille.
How long does degree certificate attestation for El Salvador take?
Approximately one to three weeks, depending mostly on the issuing state's education department. The MEA apostille is usually issued within a few working days after verification.
Is marriage certificate attestation for El Salvador needed for family residence?
Yes. A spouse applying as a family member must prove the marriage, so the registrar's certificate is verified by the Home Department or SDM, apostilled by MEA and translated into Spanish.
Did the Bitcoin Law change the document process?
No. The 2021 law and its 2025 amendment concern currency and payments. Foreign company and personal documents still need an apostille from the issuing country and a Spanish translation.
Does a Passport Seva PCC need state verification for El Salvador?
No. A police clearance from Passport Seva or a Regional Passport Office goes directly to MEA for the apostille, normally within two to four working days.
Where is the Salvadoran embassy in India?
It is at 8, Munirka Marg, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi. It provides consular services but does not legalise Indian documents, because the MEA apostille is sufficient.
Can exporters get commercial document attestation for El Salvador?
Yes. Certificates of Origin, invoices, COPP, GMP and free sale certificates and distribution agreements are certified by a Chamber of Commerce, then apostilled by MEA for Salvadoran buyers and regulators.
