Quick answer

Marriage certificate attestation for UAE Embassy: quick answer

Marriage certificate attestation for UAE Embassy legalisation starts in India: a notary and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Delhi authenticate the certificate, and the Ministry of External Affairs attests it. Only then can the UAE Embassy in New Delhi legalise it, and UAE MOFA gives the final attestation online. The UAE Embassy requires official personal documents such as marriage certificates in original form.

INFINITYGRO handles all five stages and files the online UAE application for you. Our MEA stage costs Rs 1,000–1,500 per certificate, all-inclusive; the UAE Embassy and MOFA each charge AED 150, so the usual total is Rs 10,000–11,000. Most certificates are done in 5–7 working days once the original reaches us.

Part 1 · Your certificate

Which marriage certificate to send

Send the certificate issued by the government marriage registrar, for example under the Hindu Marriage Act or the Special Marriage Act. That is the document Indian authorities can authenticate and the UAE side expects to see.

Usually goes through

  • Registrar-issued marriage certificate
  • Names and dates matching both passports
  • Clear registrar seal and signature
  • Not laminated

Ask us first

  • Religious or community certificate only
  • Nikahnama without registration
  • Very old or handwritten certificate
  • A certificate issued outside India

A marriage certificate issued abroad cannot be attested in New Delhi. The UAE Embassy states that documents from other countries must be attested by the UAE mission in the country that issued them.

Part 3 · The embassy stage

How the UAE Embassy stage works now

The UAE Embassy in New Delhi describes a digital attestation service. One online application covers the embassy and UAE MOFA. A MOFA-approved courier collects the original, normally within 24 hours of a successful submission, and the attested result is emailed. The original then comes back by courier.

Translation and safekeeping

Offices in the UAE often want a marriage certificate in Arabic. Ask the office that will receive it whose translation it accepts. If it accepts one made in India, INFINITYGRO translates into Arabic; if it wants a UAE-licensed legal translator, translate after you arrive.

Keep the attested original and the MOFA reference safe. The same attested certificate can be used again for later applications, so you should not need to repeat the attestation.

FAQs

FAQs: Marriage Certificate Attestation for UAE Embassy: Each Stage Explained

What is the first step for marriage certificate attestation for the UAE?

A notary in Delhi attests the original certificate, and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate authenticates the notary. After that comes MEA attestation, then the UAE Embassy and UAE MOFA online. The UAE Embassy will not act on a certificate the MEA has not attested.

Can a religious marriage certificate be attested for the UAE?

It depends on the certificate and on what the UAE office will accept. A certificate issued by the government marriage registrar is the safest choice. If you hold only a religious or community certificate, send us a photo first and ask your receiver what they accept.

My marriage was registered abroad. Can it be attested in New Delhi?

No. The UAE Embassy in New Delhi attests documents issued in India, and Bhutan, only. A marriage certificate issued in another country must be attested by the UAE embassy or consulate in the country where the marriage was registered.

How long does marriage certificate attestation take?

Usually 5 to 7 working days once the original reaches our Delhi office, covering all five stages. Courier time from your city to Delhi and back is extra. A certificate that needs correction at the registrar must be fixed first.

What is the total cost?

Our MEA stage is Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per certificate, all-inclusive. The UAE Embassy charges AED 150 and UAE MOFA AED 150 per personal document, so the usual total is Rs 10,000 to Rs 11,000. Courier is extra.

Is an apostille accepted instead in the UAE?

No. The UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so it does not accept the MEA apostille on a marriage certificate. Use the attestation route instead, which ends with UAE Embassy legalisation and UAE MOFA attestation online.

Do both spouses need to be present?

No. Neither spouse needs to visit any office. Send the original certificate with passport copies of both spouses by courier, or drop it at our New Ashok Nagar office. We return it by Blue Dart or another secure courier.

Will I get a stamp from the UAE Embassy on the certificate?

The UAE Embassy and MOFA stage is issued as a digital attestation with a reference number, which the receiving office checks online. The Indian notary, SDM and MEA stamps stay on the original, which is returned to you.
