Quick answer

Senegal: embassy attestation or apostille?

Senegal embassy attestation was the route for Indian documents until early 2023. Senegal then acceded to the Apostille Convention, and it has applied between Senegal and India since 23 March 2023. Today the Ministry of External Affairs apostille is the certificate Senegalese authorities look for, and the Embassy of Senegal in New Delhi does not need to legalise an apostilled document.

Senegal requests reach us from Indian engineers and managers working in the phosphate, fertiliser, power and construction sectors around Dakar, from Senegalese students completing degrees in India, and from exporters of rice, medicines, vehicles and textiles. Personal and educational documents are notarised and SDM-attested in Delhi before the apostille, while commercial documents begin with a Chamber of Commerce.

Senegal accepts the MEA apostille

Senegal acceded to the Apostille Convention on 13 July 2022 and the Convention entered into force for it on 23 March 2023 (HCCH status table, checked October 2026). A few European states objected to the accession (the Netherlands later withdrew its objection), but India did not object, so the Convention applies between India and Senegal.

Before you send documents for Senegal

Send us

  • Original documents, not laminated
  • A copy of your passport
  • A note of whether the Senegalese office wants a French translation, and whether that translation should be apostilled too
  • Your return address and phone number

Watch out for

  • Advice that you need a Senegalese Embassy stamp probably predates March 2023; the MEA apostille is now the accepted certificate
  • Ask the Senegalese office whether a French translation made in India is acceptable before you order one
  • Check that your name and date of birth are identical on the degree, the passport and any French form you fill in Senegal
  • Exporters: find out whether the buyer needs the certificate of origin, the invoice or both apostilled before shipment
FAQs

FAQs: Senegal embassy attestation

Do I still need the Senegal Embassy to stamp my documents?

Generally not. Since 23 March 2023 the Apostille Convention has applied between India and Senegal, so an MEA apostille is sufficient for Senegalese authorities. The Embassy of Senegal in New Delhi has no role for apostilled documents. If a Senegalese office insists on something extra, forward its written request and we will look at it.

Why do some websites still talk about Senegal embassy attestation?

Before 2023 Senegal was outside the Apostille Convention, and Indian documents had to be attested by the MEA and then legalised by the Senegalese Embassy. Many pages were written then and never updated. The HCCH status table shows the Convention in force for Senegal from 23 March 2023, with no objection by India.

What is your charge for a Senegal apostille?

For a personal or educational document we charge Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500, all-inclusive: notary, SDM attestation, the Rs 50 MEA fee and our service. Courier is extra. Commercial documents need a Chamber of Commerce first and are quoted in writing.

Do you offer the online apostille for Senegal?

Yes. Besides the sticker apostille we offer the online apostille, also called the e-Sanad or QR apostille. Done through INFINITYGRO it is usually ready in 2 to 3 working days. Send the document and a copy of your passport, because the passport number is entered online. Check that the Senegalese office is happy with the online version.

Will my documents need to be in French?

Senegalese administration works in French, so a degree or certificate in English is often asked for with a French translation. INFINITYGRO arranges French translations priced per page. Some offices want the translation done by a sworn translator in Senegal, so ask the receiving office before ordering one in India.

Can my Indian degree be apostilled for a job in Senegal?

Yes. Send the original degree, your marksheets and a passport copy. We take the degree through notary and SDM in Delhi and then to the MEA for the apostille. It is normally ready in 2 to 3 working days after it reaches us, and we courier it back to you.

How are company documents for Senegal handled?

Invoices, certificates of origin, board resolutions and company registration papers are certified by a Chamber of Commerce and then apostilled by the MEA. No step at the Senegalese Embassy is required. The chamber and MEA charges are set out in a written quote before work starts.

I live outside Delhi. How do I send my documents?

Courier the originals to our office at New Ashok Nagar, Delhi, with a passport copy and your return address. We do not collect from homes. If you are in Delhi you can drop them off yourself. The apostilled documents come back by Blue Dart or another secure courier.
