Bahrain Embassy Attestation Fees 2026: One MEA Apostille Instead of Embassy and MOFA
Plenty of agents still quote Bahrain like the UAE: MEA, then embassy, then MOFA in Manama. That chain ended years ago, and Indians bound for Manama, Muharraq or Riffa can save both time and money.
Quick answer: Bahrain became a party to the Apostille Convention on 31 December 2013. Since then, an Indian degree, PCC, birth or marriage certificate needs only an MEA apostille after state verification. No Bahrain Embassy attestation and no MOFA Bahrain stamp are required, and many offices in Manama will then ask for an Arabic translation.

What changed for Bahrain and how it compares in the Gulf
Before 2014, Indian papers for Bahrain were attested by MEA, legalised at the Bahrain Embassy in New Delhi and attested again by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Manama. Bahrain's accession to the Hague Convention replaced all three with the apostille. Saudi Arabia (December 2022) and Oman (2012) also use the apostille, while the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait continue with embassy attestation. If your employer moved you from Dubai to Bahrain, do not repeat the UAE process.
| Stage | Old chain (pre-2014) | Current Bahrain route |
|---|---|---|
| State / SDM / HRD | Required | Required |
| MEA | Attestation stamp | Apostille certificate |
| Bahrain Embassy, New Delhi | Legalisation | Not needed |
| MOFA Bahrain | Attestation | Not needed |
Which visa needs which document
- LMRA work visa: the employer sponsors the permit through the Labour Market Regulatory Authority. The apostilled degree or diploma proves the qualification behind the job title; a police clearance shows a clean record; experience letters support senior designations.
- Family residence: a worker who brings a wife and children shows the marriage certificate for the spouse and a birth certificate for every child, each apostilled.
- Professional licensing: nurses, doctors and pharmacists licensed by the NHRA, and engineers registered with the engineering practice council, go through primary-source verification after arrival; an apostilled degree speeds this up.
- Teachers and academics: private schools and the University of Bahrain ask for apostilled degrees and often B.Ed certificates; the Higher Education Council may run an equivalency check.
- Investors: Indian companies registering a branch or subsidiary through the Sijilat portal need apostilled corporate documents.
Degree certificate attestation for Bahrain
Bahrain's Indian workforce ranges from site engineers and electricians to bankers, IT consultants and nurses, so the education file varies: B.Tech and diploma certificates, nursing degrees with council registration, MBA and CA certificates, ITI trade certificates, consolidated marksheets, and Class 10 and 12 certificates for younger applicants or children joining schools.
- NotarisationYour original is checked and a notary attestation added where the state demands it.
- HRD or university checkThe state education department, or the university's own verification cell, confirms the certificate is genuine.
- MEA apostilleThe apostille is attached; this completes Bahrain's requirement on the Indian side.
- Arabic translationIf your employer or ministry asks, a certified Arabic translation is prepared.

Marriage certificate attestation for Bahrain and other personal papers
Personal records accepted with an apostille include marriage and birth certificates, PCC, experience certificates, divorce decrees, death certificates, affidavits, medical certificates and powers of attorney for property in India. They are notarised, authenticated by the SDM or state Home Department and apostilled by MEA. A PCC printed by the Passport Seva system skips the state level. Note that a hand-written or old municipal marriage certificate is often refused in Bahrain; a registered certificate from the Marriage Registrar is safer.
A medical certificate from India rarely needs an apostille, because Bahrain's pre-employment medical is normally repeated locally. It does make sense when a school, insurer or licensing body in Bahrain specifically asks for the Indian report.

Commercial documents for Bahraini importers and registrations
India sends Bahrain basmati rice, spices, fresh fruit and vegetables, textiles, ceramics, building materials and machinery, while many Indian contractors and IT firms operate there. Documents we handle include the Certificate of Origin, commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of incorporation, MOA/AOA, board resolution for a Bahraini branch, company power of attorney, health certificate and phytosanitary certificate for food, free sale and GMP certificates for medicines, distribution agreements and letters of authorisation. The route is notary where needed, Chamber of Commerce, then MEA apostille; ask your Bahraini importer which papers customs requires for that consignment.

Approximate working days: PCC 2–3, marriage or birth certificate 3–6, degrees 7–20, company documents 4–7. Send originals, a passport copy, your visa or offer letter, and tell us if an Arabic translation is wanted. Typical problems we see: the wife's name in the marriage certificate differs from her passport, the child's birth certificate has no name entered, the degree was laminated, or the client paid elsewhere for embassy attestation Bahrain no longer asks for.

Bahrain apostille: frequently asked
Do I still need Bahrain Embassy attestation in 2026?
No. Bahrain has been a party to the Apostille Convention since 31 December 2013. Indian documents carrying the MEA apostille are accepted without any embassy legalisation in New Delhi.
Is MOFA attestation in Manama needed after the apostille?
No. The apostille replaces the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation that used to follow embassy legalisation. Anyone asking you to pay for that step is quoting the pre-2014 procedure.
Will the LMRA accept an apostilled degree?
Yes. The apostille is the recognised authentication for Bahrain. Your employer submits it with the work permit application, and licensing bodies such as the NHRA may still perform their own source verification.
Which documents bring my wife and children to Bahrain?
Your apostilled marriage certificate proves the relationship with your wife, and an apostilled birth certificate is needed for each child. Many offices also want Arabic translations of these certificates.
Do I need an Arabic translation in Bahrain?
Often yes. Government departments in Bahrain work in Arabic, and many ask for a certified translation of English documents. We can arrange it after the apostille so that the apostille text is translated as well.
What does marriage certificate attestation for Bahrain cost?
Between ₹1,500 and ₹2,500 including notary, SDM or Home Department authentication, MEA apostille and courier. The exact price depends on the state that issued the certificate.
My documents were attested for the UAE. Can I use them in Bahrain?
Not as they are. UAE embassy stamps do not help in Bahrain. The original must be apostilled by MEA; if an MEA attestation stamp already exists, we can still obtain the apostille.
How long does degree attestation for Bahrain take?
Roughly seven to twenty working days, depending on how quickly the state education department or university verifies the degree. Some states, such as Delhi and Haryana, are usually faster than others.
Do nurses going to Bahrain need anything extra?
Nurses usually need the apostilled nursing degree or diploma, transcripts, registration with the state nursing council and experience letters. The NHRA licensing process then verifies these through its own channels.
Can commercial documents for Bahrain be apostilled?
Yes. Company documents and export papers are attested by a Chamber of Commerce and then apostilled by MEA. Confirm with your Bahraini importer which papers customs wants for a particular shipment.
Is a PCC needed for a Bahrain family visa?
It is mainly requested for the worker. Family members are less often asked, but some employers include it. A Passport Seva PCC is apostilled directly by MEA within two to three working days.
